PIOMBINO

Piombino is a town that looks toward the horizon, suspended between the blue of the sea and the strength of its history.

Overlooking the Tuscan Archipelago, it offers sweeping views, salty sea breezes, and sunsets that light up the sky every evening. In the heart of the town stand the Torrione and the Rivellino, the ancient gateways to the city, symbols of medieval Piombino, where even Leonardo da Vinci left his mark by studying its fortifications.

Walking through the historic center, visitors reach Piazza Bovio, one of the most striking viewpoints along the coast, where the gaze stretches across islands and endless horizons. From here, Elba Island seems almost close enough to touch.

A short distance away stands the Castle, a fortress that preserves centuries of history and hosts exhibitions and cultural events. Equally important is the Archaeological Museum, which complements a visit to the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia and houses its most valuable artifacts discovered during excavations of the necropolises and the acropolis, including the famous Amphora of Baratti.

In Piombino, Nature Takes Center Stage

Punta Falcone Park is a protected natural area of extraordinary beauty. Located on the headland, it offers trails winding through Mediterranean scrub and dramatic sea cliffs. It is home to the Astronomical Observatory, where the absence of light pollution creates unforgettable stargazing experiences, as well as historical routes connected to World War II, including the Sommi Picenardi Battery.

Nearby lies Calamoresca, the town’s largest beach and the starting point of the scenic Via dei Cavalleggeri, a coastal trekking trail that runs all the way to the Gulf of Baratti, where Etruscan archaeology blends with one of Tuscany’s most beautiful beaches.

For those seeking wide sandy shores, the East Coast offers a wild and enchanting stretch of coastline extending toward Sterpaia Park. Here, golden dunes and centuries-old pine forests embrace crystal-clear waters with shallow seabeds, making it ideal for families and nature lovers alike.

Piombino is a town of wind, salt, and history, a place that captivates visitors with its authentic character and timeless charm.
